International Credit Union Day
“Credit Unions Unite for Good”
October 17th, 2013 marks the 65th annual International Credit Union Day! ICU Day is a time to reflect on the history of the credit union movement and to celebrate its achievements and success. ICU Day also honors the people who have dedicated a great deal of time and energy to the movement as well as recognize those working in the credit union industry today.
Credit unions like Point West are different from banks in that we are member-owned cooperatives, not for-profit institutions only interested in a better bottom line. That is why this year’s theme, “Credit Unions Unite for Good”, is a great representation of the continued dedication credit unions across the world have to improving the lives of all their members as well as the efforts made by members to assure other members are receiving the help they deserve. The theme also accurately conveys the credit union movement’s shared objective of Americans choosing credit unions as their ideal financial partner.
ICU Day is celebrated in many different ways around the world. Some credit unions and their members host festivals and parades, while others opt to keep it low-key. However you decide to recognize this day remember that you are celebrating with over 196 million members in 100 countries!
Last, but definitely not least, ICU Day is a time that we show our appreciation to our members. We are very grateful for the constant support and involvement of our members and owe a lot of our accomplishments to you. The team at Point West would like to take a moment to thank you for your ongoing commitment to our mission of “People Helping People” and the credit union movement.
